ENDOSCOPIC THERMAL ABLATION
Endoscopic thermal ablation is a general term that refers to any form of endoscopically delivered thermal (heat) for destruction of small abnormal areas in the GI tract including small areas of Barrett’s tissue or residual polyps in the colon. Thermal ablation is an outpatient procedure. YAG laser, bipolar or monopolar electrosurgical techniques may be used during the treatment. In the esophagus, YAG laser thermal ablation is used to destroy small areas of Barrett's tissue that are not suitable for photodynamic therapy or the BÂRRX procedure.
