- Dr. R. Kent Farris

Dr. Farris was born in Gallatin, Tennessee and is a graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. After his Internship and Residency at Vanderbilt, he completed a two-year Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of North Carolina and is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.

Dr. Farris served in the Army Medical Corps as a Captain, stationed in the United States and Vietnam, and received the Bronze Star.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Farris served as president of the Knoxville Academy of Medicine 1986-1987, and he is a graduate of Leadership Knoxville, a community resource organization. Dr. Farris has also served as Chief of Medicine at Mercy Medical Center St. Mary’s and Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center and served as Chief of Staff at Fort Sanders 1993-1994.

He has served on the Board of the Knoxville Opera Company and also directed the Physician Fund Raising Campaign for the Knoxville Museum of Art. He is a strong supporter of the arts in the community. Dr. Farris and his wife have three children. Leisure activities include golf and travel.
